Holy absence, Batman!
So, about three days ago, August started. And now it’s October 28. Guys. What?!
While September was slower than molasses, October on the other hand just flew right by, along with the other eight months of 2016. How can it be that it is Halloween in three days, when it seems like we were just home for Christmas a couple months ago?? 2016 is certainly proving to be a blink and you miss it kind of year, isn’t it?
Anywho, here at the Undomestic household, apparently October is the month to visit! First my mom came two weeks ago, and then this past weekend, my cousin came for his annual stop by the midwest, and for the second year in a row, human tripod for our Christmas card photo. Shoutout to him for being extra patient this year while every location & photo were “not the one” and yours truly here may have gotten a wee bit crabby at one point. But I mean, hello, woman here. 🙋🏻
In the spirit of catch up, in between people visiting I’ve mostly been working on photos and trying my hand at expanding my capabilities in the kitchen. This week’s dinner test run was fajita-stuffed peppers – more on that later, and the dessert experiment of the week will be fudge… I’ll let you know how that goes.
Other than that, we spent a lot of the last three weekends down in Milwaukee showing the famski our stomping grounds nowadays, and eating out way too much because there are too many good places to eat! There wasn’t a meal to be wasted on my dinner-burning at home. Hehe. That and I secretly didn’t want to cook for anyone because I’m still very much a work in progress, and I need people to leave here thinking I’m a real live adult.
Both visits went pretty well! My mom always loves coming, especially since she’s not a huge fan of Connecticut herself. I’d be willing to bet if this was a permanent thing for us, or even longer-term, she’d probably be looking into real estate out here, ha. My cousin too, probably, if he didn’t have a family business back home with his parents. It sounds odd, but Wisconsin is a total closet destination. And I say this as someone who used to think it was some dusty backroad farm land. So I get it when people aren’t exactly clambering to take time off for a trip out here. But two years into this exploration of the midwest, this gem of a state is still taking my breath away.
Granted I haven’t been to too many other cities outside of New England. However I definitely haven’t seen for myself city skylines turning into deep valleys in the woods with wooden bridge upon wooden bridge leading to cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan still tricking me into thinking it’s an ocean. Seriously. If you’re looking to try something new, not super expensive, and you’re not specifically looking for a tropical vacation, I’m begging you to check out the Milwaukee area. While you’re here, take I-43 north all the way up to at least the Sheboygan area. Stop in Cedarburg, Grafton, Port Washington, and Kohler along the way. You will leave in disbelief at the scenery, and more believing of the idea that Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill towns really do exist. They do. In Wisconsin.
So apparently catching up turned into a shameless plug for good ole Wisco. Did I mention it’s 2.5 hours from Chicago too? Granted, I’ve yet to take advantage of that, but, I’ll get to it someday when I own a gun. Just kidding. Ha. Kind of. But it’s scary there nowadays!
Anywho, that’s enough babbling for one evening. I hope you all are having a fabulous Fall, fabulous Friday, and have an amazing Halloween weekend! Are you dressing up? Going out? Details, please, for the boring girl who will be in bed by 10! But we are going to try and take advantage of the weekend, since Halloween so cruelly falls on the worst day of the week this year.
But, at least there’s candy. 👻🎃🍭🍫🍬
